Immigration, Systemic Racism and Barriers to Student Success

Co-organized with the BCIT Student Association. This event is a Student Circle open to all BCIT students.

Students sharing their perspective with speakers Will Tao from Edemann & Co and Tina Parbhakar from North Shore Restorative Justice Society.


  • Immigration experiences: recognizing diverse journeys, challenges and coping mechanisms.
  • Status and identity: how residency labels are colonial and affect well-being as well as sense of belong, from the lens of students and lawyers.
  • Systemic racism and barriers to academic success: what does the evidence show and what institutions and student bodies can do.
  • Taking action: how to get involved and/or access existing resources and supports.
