ABOUT THIS EVENT
Intuitive Eating 101
“I’m so BAD!”
“You have so much willpower!”
“I really shouldn’t eat this…diet starts Monday!”
We’ve been conditioned to believe that deprivation and restriction are normal- or even something to be celebrated. That we should police our food choices, judge our bodies, and that our health and worth are dictated by the size of our clothes.
Created in the ‘90s by dietitians Evelyn Tribole and Elyse Resch, Intuitive Eating is an evidence-based and somehow still revolutionary anti-diet approach to food and our bodies. It is a weight inclusive self-care eating framework that prioritizes both mental and physical health.
Intuitive Eating 101 will get into what it means to be an intuitive eater (So I just eat ANYTHING I want?! I would never stop eating brownies!) and the science that backs it up. (Spoiler alert: at some point you would, in fact, stop eating brownies!)
Bodyish Coaching & Consulting: Who are we?
Janelle Zwarych is an Intuitive Eating and anti-diet culture educator whose work is rooted in her own journey of healing from diet culture. With a background in psychology and nonprofit leadership, she is passionate about supporting people in building a more peaceful relationship with food, movement, and their bodies.
Selma van Halder is an educator, chef, and anthropologist with a background in food systems education for both children and adults. She firmly believes that food serves as a powerful vehicle for joy, connection, and learning.
Together as Bodyish Coaching & Consulting, they bring their diverse experiences and perspectives to support individuals and communities in questioning diet-culture’s harmful narratives. Through education, conversation, and reflection, they invite people to explore a more peaceful relationship with food, movement, and their bodies. Bodyish’s mission goes beyond individual healing to challenge the societal norms that shape how we relate to food, movement, and our bodies, to create a more just and equitable world for EVERY body.
Expectations for Behaviour
Diversity Circles, as part of the BCIT Respect, Diversity, and Inclusion (RDI) Office, has outlined the Expectations for Behaviour for our events and initiatives.
Diversity Circles has always benefitted from the empathy, sincerity, and respectful curiosity of our community, and this has helped create events and initiatives where we hold productive and authentic discussions, advancing our knowledge and utilization of equity, diversity, and inclusion principles.
As our events and initiatives continue to reach out to diverse audiences which include BCIT employees, students, and partners (BCIT Student Association, BCIT Alumni Association, and industry guests), and as we have moved towards presenting events both in person and via teleconferencing platforms, we realize that having a set of expectations for behaviour will help maintain the accountable, respectful spaces our community has come to expect from Diversity Circles events and initiatives.
Please take the time to review our Expectations for Behaviour prior to your upcoming participation
ASL interpretation, lunch, and refreshments will be provided.
Please consider bringing a reusable container to help reduce food waste from the event.
