Post-secondary campuses are becoming increasingly diverse, including in the area of neurodiversity (students with cognitive differences, autism spectrum, learning differences, and who are differently abled). To build a cohesive, enriched campus, we need to understand not only the “academic” implications of neurodiversity, but also the social dimensions.
Diversity is ubiquitous in society, in education, and increasingly in the professions. Our amazing speakers will chart the intersectional pathways experienced by individuals from their family system through to secondary school, to post-secondary, and onward to the work place. Explore with us how our students make the transition from K-12, to post-secondary education, and then into industry, with a focus on how inclusive campuses and workplaces can foster positive social relationships, innovation, successful teamwork, and ”community learning” that brings benefits to all.
The interactive portion of the workshop (working in small groups) will highlight concrete tools, examples, and resources that participants can use to enrich teaching and learning on our campus and benefit all our students – bringing greater understanding of how neurodiverse persons enrich the social, as well as cognitive, fabric of our communities, campuses, and workplaces.

This workshop, open to all BCIT employees, is a collaboration between the Disability Resource Centre, the Learning and Teaching Centre, the FSA Diversity Circles, and community partners from Open Door Group, the BC Initiative for Inclusive Post-Secondary Education (BC-IPSE), and Burnaby School District.
