The Respect, Diversity, and Inclusion (RDI) Office in conjunction with Diversity Circles is pleased to invite you to “Celebrating Black Excellence with special Guests Viv Leacock and Adrian Holmes.
Black Excellence Day is an opportunity to celebrate and learn about and support the achievements of Black people and Black Canadians Black excellence day is January 15th, 2026, and in recognition of Black Excellence Day we will be hosting a Hybrid event on January 15th 2026th. Join us for this celebratory lunchtime event where we will be joined by two distinguished guests to talk about what Black Excellence means to them.
Guest Speakers
Adrian Holmes is an award-winning actor best known for Bel-Air, Star Trek: Strange New Worlds, 19-2, V Wars, and Arrow. He won the 2024 NAACP Image Award for Outstanding Supporting Actor for his portrayal of Philip Banks. Born in Wales and raised in Vancouver with roots in Barbados, Holmes has appeared in over 100 film and TV projects, including Skyscraper and Elysium. He lives in Los Angeles with his wife, actress Caroline Chikezie.
Viv Leacock is a celebrated Canadian actor and director known for his versatility in both comedy and drama, with a career spanning more than two decades and over 100 film and TV credits. Born in Montreal and raised in Vancouver, he first gained wide attention in I Spy and has since appeared in projects such as Intern Academy, Are We There Yet?, Are We Done Yet?, Psych, Dirk Gently’s Holistic Detective Agency, A Million Little Things, and This Means War. A Leo Award nominee for The Thaw, he has also directed the short film Missed Connections and contributed voice work to Sherlock Holmes in the 22nd Century. Leacock lives in Vancouver with his wife, Divina, and their three children.

Register below and a calendar invite will be provided to you prior to the event. Note that registration is limited to the first 60 people in person. This event will also be livestreamed.
ASL interpretation will be provided. Please let us know if you have any additional needs to participate. As light refreshments will be served, please let us know if you have any allergies or dietary restrictions. This session is open to BCIT staff, faculty, and students, along with BCIT alumni and Student Association staff.

Diversity Circles, as part of the BCIT Respect, Diversity, and Inclusion (RDI) Office, has outlined the Expectations for Behaviour for our events and initiatives.
Diversity Circles has always benefitted from the empathy, sincerity, and respectful curiosity of our community, and this has helped create events and initiatives where we hold productive and authentic discussions, advancing our knowledge and utilization of equity, diversity, and inclusion principles.
As our events and initiatives continue to reach out to diverse audiences which include BCIT employees, students, and partners (BCIT Student Association, BCIT Alumni Association, and industry guests), and as we have moved towards presenting events both in person and via teleconferencing platforms, we realize that having a set of expectations for behaviour will help maintain the accountable, respectful spaces our community has come to expect from Diversity Circles events and initiatives.
